Poker Profiles: Rhett Butler

It took a long while before Rhett Butler finally called himself a successful professional Poker player. But when he did become successful in his chosen field, words are not enough to express his feeling.

Rhett is born in Baltimore, Maryland. He schooled in James Madison University where he earned his college degree. Even then, Rhett is already playing Poker to support himself. After college, he became an insurance agent, which he still is at present. But he is no longer residing in Baltimore. He and his family of a wife and three children now holds a residence in Rockville, also in Maryland. While Rhett keeps a fulltime job of selling insurance, he continues to find time for Poker, especially when there is a big tournament around.

Rhett has been playing Poker professionally for more than two decades. However, his big break did not came until 2006 when he finished fifth place at the World Series of Poker tournament main event. For that win alone, Rhett took home over $3 million cash prize. Interestingly, Rhett was only backed up by his friends to be able to enter the Main Event.

The good thing about Poker is that it can make you an instant millionaire if it is truly your time. With enough skills to get you through past the many other talented individuals who know how to play their cards, you will surely get there. Although his fifth place finish at the WSOP is nothing compared to other's achievements, Rhett is satisfied. He is not contented going back to the sidelines waiting for his turn to shine while enjoying the money he reaped for his efforts.

Rhett's name may not ring a bell at first. But soon enough, he knows that there will come a time that his name, too will be etched in Poker history. That's the dream of any Poker professional after all: to be recognized and be rich enough with Poker money to continue playing around the circuit. The real allure of Poker is probably its ability to offer fame and fortune in such a sweet package. With enough patience, skills, and the mindset to go on even when you are not always winning, you will surely get to where the Poker greats are. The only difference between Poker greats and players on the sidelines like Rhett Butler is that the former were lucky to meet luck earlier. That is how it really is in gambling. It is either you are lucky or you are not. It is either you win or you lose.
